Learning About SmartLaw Membership
Review the SmartLaw Rules of Operation to learn about the referral process, reporting requirements, how SmartLaw is organized and other service details. By becoming a member of SmartLaw, members agree to the Rules of Operation.
Complete the General Application and Agreement and the Qualifications Standards forms. The General Application and Agreement require vitals about you and your practice as well as notification and agreement to the terms and conditions of SmartLaw membership. You can save your progress by providing an e-mail address and creating a password. You will receive an e-mail that includes a link back to your partially completed Qualifications Standards forms.
Limited Experience Panel
For lawyers with fewer than five years in practice, the Limited Experience Panel allows young lawyers to get referrals for cases with paying clients with simple legal issues. Check the Limited Experience application for additional details and requirements.
All members of SmartLaw are required to carry errors and omissions insurance in the minimum amount of $100,000 for each occurrence and $300,000 aggregate per year. LACBA offers an exclusive errors and omissions insurance program through Ahern Insurance Brokerage: (800) 282-9786.

LACBA Members: $200/year (3 practice area panels)
Non-LACBA Members: $550/year (3 practice area panels)

SmartLaw is a public service of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. SmartLaw is a certified Lawyer Referral Service. State Bar of California certification number: 042. SmartLaw is certified to refer cases to lawyers in the following counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura.
